MUSE BETA EXCHANGE

Find your next critique partner.

Meet an author who reads your genre and exchange thoughtful feedback on your first ten chapters. Start with beta-reader training, try a chapter together, and build a partnership you can both choose to continue beyond Muse.

How It Works

Give thoughtful feedback. Receive thoughtful feedback. Find out whether you work well together.

1. Learn the foundations
Complete the Muse beta-reader training and assessment. Learn to separate personal preferences from craft concerns and explain your reading experience in a helpful, respectful way.

3. Try a chapter together

Exchange feedback on Chapter 1 through Muse. Afterward, each person privately chooses whether to continue. The partnership moves forward when both choose yes.

2. Find a compatible partner
Complete the Muse beta-reader training and assessment. Learn to separate personal preferences from craft concerns and explain your reading experience in a helpful, respectful way.

4. Build the partnership

Continue through Chapter 10, with each new exchange opening after both submit feedback. After ten chapters, mutually choose whether to share contact details and continue outside Muse.

Finding Your Match.

A partner who understands your kind of story
Your match should be someone comfortable reading the story you’re writing—and whose story you’re comfortable reading in return. Your profiles help us find compatibility in both directions.

I'm a paragraph. Click here to add your own text and edit me. It's easy.

Genre & Audience
Match with authors who read your genre and age category, whether you’re writing adult fantasy, young adult romance, or something else.

Reading Boundaries
Share the themes, content, and romance heat levels you’re comfortable reading so both partners can make an informed choice.

Availability
Find someone whose reading pace and availability fit yours, making it easier to keep the exchange moving together.

Both authors review and accept the proposed match before any chapters are shared. If a compatible partner isn’t available yet, your request stays open.
A good exchange goes both ways

Every participant completes the same foundational training. These shared expectations help keep exchanges useful, respectful, and reciprocal.

Give useful feedback

Describe what worked, where confusion arose, and how specific moments affected the reading experience. Respect the story’s genre and intent while separating personal taste from craft concerns.

Keep it reciprocal

Read and respond to each other’s chapters. Both partners submit feedback before either receives it, and the next chapter opens once the current exchange is complete.

Respect each other’s time

Follow the agreed reading schedule. If circumstances change, use the exchange tools to request more time or end the partnership rather than leaving someone waiting.

Protect each other’s work

Keep manuscripts confidential. Don’t share, distribute, or upload a partner’s writing to AI tools or other services without permission. Contact details are shared only by mutual choice after Chapter 10.

Before You Get Started

Is this a paid beta-reading service?
Muse Beta Exchange is a reciprocal program: both authors read and give feedback on each other’s work. Joining means participating as both an author and a beta reader.

Do I have to commit to all ten chapters?

You can end a partnership before Chapter 10. Use the exchange tools to close it so your partner knows where things stand.

Where do we read and give feedback?

Chapters and feedback are exchanged within your Muse Exchange Room. Each new chapter exchange opens after both partners complete the previous one.

Who can access my chapters?

Your chapters are shared with your accepted partner. Authorized Muse staff may access relevant material when needed to investigate a report or resolve a technical issue.

What happens after Chapter 10?

The Muse exchange is complete. If both authors choose to connect, each can share selected contact details and continue independently. Continuing outside Muse is optional.
